Background
Today, Charismatic Leadership has reached its limits, and a new type of leadership is desired. Servant leadership," in which leaders are dedicated and supportive, is particularly popular, but many people do not know how to learn it. Many people say that they cannot learn it just by attending a lecture.
Aims
To improve engagement within the organization by not only understanding the philosophy of "servant leadership," which is not a top-down approach but one in which leaders are committed and supportive, but also by encouraging leaders to make concrete changes in their behavior.
Method
The "Mandala Chart," which Japanese Major Leaguer Shohei Otani used to achieve his dream of becoming a Major Leaguer when he was a boy, was used as a tool to clarify specific actions and to change behavior. Whether or not a change in behavior has occurred is measured by fade-back from supervisors and subordinates. In addition, whether the behavior change was positive or not was measured by positive and negative emotions and wellbeing indices before and after the intervention.
Results
Both evaluations from subordinates and supervisors were positive. Positive affect increased significantly, negative affect decreased significantly, and the wellbeing index increased significantly.
Conclusion
These results indicate that the mandala chart is effective in the acquisition of servant leadership. We plan to investigate the impact of servant leadership on business performance by examining its relationship with business performance. We would also like to utilize the mandala chart as a tool for improving the level of happiness.
