Background

Brain tumor is a great clinical challenge because of their high propensity for recurrence even after surgical and standard medical treatment, causing major distress for patients and their families. Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) has been regarded as a successful brain tumor palliative treatment. It is vital to develop a nursing intervention to assist patient and their family receiving a holistic palliative care while they receive the BNCT toward a better quality of life.

Aims

The objective of this study was based on a scoping review of the clinical guidelines of palliative care of brain tumor patients receiving BNCT, a flouring adaptation program and a case series study was reported.

Method

Based on the literature review and a scoping review of clinical guidelines, A flouring adaptation program with palliative care consulting, and provided support to patients and families to help develop positive coping strategies was established. A scoping review of clinical guidelines of caring of patients with brain tumor was completed using PRISMA guidelines. PubMed, JBI evidence summary, CINAHL, UpToDate, and google scholar were searched. A case series method was used.

Results

Based on the findings of scoping review, 15 clinical guidelines in related to the care of palliative treatment of brain tumor was included to establish the flouring adaptation program. The flouring adaptation program provided symptoms assessment and management, enhancing flouring five domains consultations in related to palliative care, which included flourishing adaptation reflection, release the fear and self dignity, and flouring adaptation internalization and fulfill. Four patients with brain tumors recurrence suffered from uncertainty, anxiety, and anticipatory loss were reported in this study.

Conclusion

An evidence-based flouring adaptation program was provided holistic care and consultative healing to help patients with brain tumor receiving BNCT. This model reinforced flouring-based life values, supported patient engagement and integrated the body-mind-spirituality of patients. Helping the patients and their families to cope with symptoms, anticipatory loss and to improve quality of life.
