Elliot J Cohen
Dr. Elliot Cohen is a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice and the director of psychology for the Scarsdale Schools (Scarsdale, New York), where he leads evidence-based initiatives to foster well-being and achievement at the individual and institutional level via system planning, research, professional development training, and intervention with students, staff and families. Dr. Cohen is an internationally accomplished presenter with a special interest in positive psychology and positive education. He is passionate about helping institutions cultivate well-being via both organic and intentional practices. In his clinical work, Dr. Cohen is committed to efficacious interventions that integrate positive psychotherapy with other evidence- based approaches.
Dr. Cohen received a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology of Yeshiva University. He performed his clinical internship at St. Luke's/Roosevelt Hospital (now Mount Sinai Hospital), where he also completed a fellowship in pediatric disabilities, served as a supervising psychologist, and directed the Behavior Disorders Clinic at the Pediatric Disabilities Center. After joining Scarsdale as a middle school psychologist, Dr. Cohen went on to lead the department as director of psychology. Amongst many awards and accomplishments, Dr. Cohen was recently named a “Finalist” of the International Positive Psychology Association’s Clinical Case Challenge (Australia, 2019). Dedicated to systemic growth of student and staff well-being in high performing schools, Dr. Cohen’s work has been published and presented at the International Conference on Well-Being in Education Systems (Switzerland, 2017).
